Riek II - MY.B
The aluminium facade of this office building located in the new urban quarter Europacity of Berlin is characterised by the coloured gradation of its intrados, the geometric appearance of its partly opaque surface and its storeywise offsets on the streetside. A systemic solution was to be found in order to display the multiple repetition of the various kinds of geometries cost-efficiently. From a technical perspective the facade must meet contradictory requirements: sun and sound protection versus natural ventilation and daylight provision. To comply with the required limit values in closed sun shading, the design includes opening casements as well as a precisely optimised proportion of glass. Considering the solar energy entry, the decent external solar protection is an essential requirement. The inwardly inclined windowsills allow the rainwater to drain off through a gap between facade cladding and glazing. Hereby the staining of the light-coloured facade caused by the pollution originating from the four-lane road in front of the building shall be avoided.
