95-meter residential high-rise in hybrid timber as a pilot project in Tanzania
Project
With the 'Burj Zanzibar' pilot project in Tanzania, we aim to establish wood as a sustainable building material for modern housing in Africa. Working with an international, interdisciplinary team, we are focused on creating a local value chain based on renewable resources. Although Tanzania has five times more forest area per capita than Germany, wood is mainly used for energy production and is rarely used in construction. The 'Burj Zanzibar' in Fumba Town will become Africa’s tallest hybrid timber building.

The hybrid timber building will promote the local available wood as the building material of the future and draw attention to a more sustainable construction while offering high living standards.
