Office building in hybrid timber construction with extended cantilevered slabs

Project

The three-story office building is nestled within orchards, combining modern workspaces with a low-carbon hybrid timber construction. Prominent cantilevered floor slabs define the building’s character and create seamless transitions between interior and exterior spaces. Encircling balconies extend the work areas, provide structural sun and weather protection, and enable a transparent façade design. Together with the inner courtyards, the generous glazing ensures even, natural daylight throughout the year. The multi-folded pitched roof is fully equipped with photovoltaic panels, completing the building’s sustainable concept.

Three diagonally arranged glulam beams, together with parallel-spanning secondary beams and the overlying CLT slabs, form the distinctive roof structure.

Structure
The structural system is designed as a three-story timber frame with a reinforced concrete underground car park. The floor slabs consist of single-span cross-laminated timber (CLT) panels with a maximum span of 5.40 m, installed flush on glulam beams and Bau-Buche columns. Three diagonally arranged glulam beams, together with parallel-spanning secondary beams and the overlying CLT slabs, form the distinctive roof structure. Both the floor and roof slabs act as structural diaphragms. In combination with reinforced concrete cores, load-bearing CLT walls, and steel bracing in the external staircases, they transfer horizontal shear loads safely through the underground car park into the foundation.
