Renovation and expansion of Greifswald Theatre with distinctive “city window”
Project
The Greifswald City Theatre, a listed neoclassical building from 1915 with an adjoining municipal hall, offers 438 seats. Its refurbishment aims to create a spatial structure that is economically, technically, and energetically optimized. The historic façade will be restored, and the main auditorium fully renovated – all while preserving the building’s character. A new extension adds space for a rehearsal stage, ballet studio, workshops, and a canteen. A key architectural feature is the striking “city window” in the ballet hall – a full-height movable façade element that allows views into the theatre and out into the city, or privacy when closed.
