Renovation of the facades of the Renzo Piano designed Area at Potsdamer Platz

Project

After German reunification and the fall of the Berlin Wall, Renzo Piano developed a master plan for the Daimler-Chrysler district around Potsdamer Platz. The buildings are now being gradually renovated. The "B1" construction site, with its ground floor facades over 8 meters high, has been completed as the first milestone.

Seven-meter-high steel-glass façade with custom-designed profiles, shading and point-supported glass canopies

Facade Design
The prominent ground floor façade facing Potsdamer Platz consists of a post-and-beam structure approximately 7 meters high, featuring custom-shaped steel profiles. Between the building's supporting columns, transverse load-bearing drainage channels have been installed. These, in combination with slightly rearward-tilted steel brackets, support a point-supported glass canopy.
