Musik-Akademie Campus 2040

The Music Academy Basel is planning a comprehensive renovation and expansion of its facilities at the historic site. The project is based on an integrated concept selected through a competitive design study with prequalification. The proposal envisions a densification of the "Music Academy Basel Campus 2040" within an existing conservation zone. At the same time, the campus opens itself to the city through a bold architectural gesture. At the heart of the design is a striking new structure that bridges over the roof of the existing library in the northern courtyard. Photovoltaic tiles fold over the volume like a protective cap. The building becomes a visible landmark far beyond the campus while preserving the subterranean library below. The elevated structure also maintains an open visual connection from Leonhardsgraben into the courtyard.
