Suspended steles Facade structure with terracotta cladding
Project
The five-storey building with a display façade, designed by the architect M. Fuksas, was built in the inner city of Mainz, opposite the Cathedral. The curtain façade comprises ceramic lamellas, which form open and closed sections of the facade, just like half opened sun-blinds. For the benefit of an all-over impression, the facade and the roof have been treated in the same way. This is an attempt to balance the bulky volume and the delicate facade division, and it also conciliates between the historicized market buildings and the large format public housing blocks of the 1970s.
