Conference center featuring a self-supporting steel and ETFE lattice dome as a defining landmark
Project
The emerging East African country of Rwanda is on its way to becoming Africa’s leading service hub in the long term. A milestone in this development is the Kigali Convention Centre, which was established as a pilot project in the capital. The complex consists of a conference building and a hotel. At its heart stands the conference building, featuring a steel dome approximately 40 meters high. The spiral-shaped dome draws inspiration from the tradition of circular structures and, due to its hillside location, serves as a landmark not only for Kigali but for all of Rwanda. A testament to its national significance: Since September 2024, it has been depicted on the Rwandan 5000-franc banknote.
