High-rise building with 22 floor directly at the main train station in Berlin

Project

Next to Berlin's main train station, a 22-story high-rise building with a height of over 85 meters and a gross floor area of 32,000 m² has been constructed. The high-rise serves as a prominent entrance to the new Europacity district in Berlin and forms a defining trio with the existing skyscrapers. The building's façade is horizontally folded; the geometry becomes increasingly flat toward the top, opening up as the curtain of light aluminum bars visually expands in the upper floors while the bars compress, providing a panoramic view of Berlin.

Facade Design
The building envelope consists of a unitized double skin façade. The inner layer is a structurally reinforced window wall, while the outer façade layer is attached to the inner one using steel knife plates. In the outer layer, in addition to laminated safety glass, square powder-coated aluminum extrusion profiles are arranged to allow ventilation of the space between the façades.
