Company Restaurant and Conference Center on the DLR Campus

Project

A new, identity-defining staff restaurant and conference center is being built on the campus of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Oberpfaffenhofen. The new building will serve not only as a staff restaurant and central meeting point for employees but also as a representative conference center. This architecturally ambitious project is characterized by various building volumes and facade types, which are defined by their clear design language and the interplay of transparent and seemingly opaque surfaces.

Facade Design
The façades of the restaurant and conference center encompass a wide range of technical solutions: aluminum punched windows in offices and corridors, glazed aluminum mullion-transom systems in the restaurant and conference rooms, and glazed steel mullion-transom façades in spaces with large spans. A central design element is the rear ventilated cladding system made of folded and perforated aluminum sheets, which emphasize the defining architectural cubes while simultaneously creating a façade that blurs the boundaries between transparency and enclosure.
