Free formed concrete bridge over four tram tracks

Project

The road bridge is located in Stuttgart-Möhringen and initially spans two, later four light rail tracks. Due to the geometry of the light rail clearance profiles and the height constraints of the adjacent road, a freely shaped bridge structure was developed with the goal of achieving minimal construction height.

Freely shaped reinforced concrete structure designed as a frame construction

Bridge Construction
The freely shaped reinforced concrete structure was designed using parametric 3D models, as there are no flat surfaces and the cross-section of the bridge changes continuously. The reinforcement design was programmed in RhinoScript, from which the final plans were generated. A special, project-specific formwork technique was required to achieve the curvatures of the reinforced concrete structure.
